Stop The Cavalry EP CD

Tigermoth Records are proud to release the new EP from Les Penning and Robert Reed. The title tracks is a re-working of the classic 1978 Christmas song ‘Stop The Cavalry’ by Jona Lewie. The EP also features three traditional Christmas tunes re-worked by Les and Rob. Les Penning, who along with Mike Oldfield was responsible for the Christmas hit ‘In Dulci Jubilo’ from 1976, along with playing on various other singles and albums of Mike’s including the classic ‘Ommadawn’.

Les Penning:
“It’s become a tradition of ours to do a Christmas single, usually at the last minute.
I’d often hear ‘Stop The Cavalry’, like everybody else on the Christmas albums that feature my song ‘In Dulci Jubilo’. It’s a great tune and I spoke to Rob about it, and we managed, between us, to bring out something new from the song.”

Robert Reed:
“When Les brought the idea to me of doing this song, I knew it would be a challenge, as there are lyrics which are very important to the song. It took a lot of work and re-arranging for it to stand, alone, as an instrumental. The result is fantastic and quite different from the original. It shows how good a melody the song has.
I love the point in the process when Les puts his recorders on the track. It’s so recognisable from the Christmas hit he played on back in 1976. It just evokes Christmas atmospheres straight away. He is such a great player.”
