Symphonic/progressive/alt/art rock outfit from the UK with their 4th release. The trio has hit upon a recognizable sound throughout the release, which is often moody, melodic, and mesmerizing. GEP are really pleased to welcome new band Returned To The Earth (RTTE) to the label - their first album ‘Fall of the Watcher’ is released on 27th January 2023. ‘Fall of the Watcher’ has already been shortlisted for album of the year by ‘The Prog Report’ website and the title track nominated for best single. RTTE main man Robin Peachy: “I like the meaning behind the phrase Returned To The Earth which is a direct reference to the cycle of life and returning to the soil. My music is influenced by many styles but mainly between Prog to Alt Rock and my only real criteria is that the music is interesting and fits with the overall feel of the album. I like melody and emotion above virtuosity and I like songs to have the time to breathe and develop naturally.

‘Fall Of The Watcher’ was written and recorded through 2019 - 2021 and reflects the world and my own experiences over this time. It was written as an album to be listened to from start to finish rather than a collection of individual songs and it covers personal loss, the pandemic and a commentary on the state of the world. It’s a very exciting time to be joining GEP, a well respected Prog label, and I hope this is the start of a great relationship which enables me to reach more people with my music.”

For anyone who loves progressive music, this band, and this album, is a must listen. The closest comparison for me is the band IQ. Robin Peachy‘s vocals are very similar to that of Peter Nicholls.

RETURNED TO THE EARTH veröffentlichen nun ihr viertes Studioalbum. ´Fall Of The Watcher´ wurde von Steve Kitch (THE PINEAPPLE THIEF) gemastert und durch das Trio bereits 2022 in Eigenregie vorgelegt. Jetzt erscheint es auch auf einem Silberling ganz offiziell über ein Label, über „Giant Electric Pea“. Das Hauslabel der britischen Prog Rock-Legende IQ ist insofern nicht die schlechteste Adresse für die Gruppe aus Warwickshire in Großbritannien, schließlich sind auch in ihrem Sound Parallelen zu deren stilprägendem Ausdrucksstil auszumachen.

RETURNED TO THE EARTH bauen ihre Kompositionen gerne in einer sanften Atmosphäre auf, die der von etwa NO MAN nicht unähnlich ist, und präsentieren den aus dieser Anhäufung entstehenden Ausbruch entlang der Sphären von PORCUPINE TREE. Dabei vergessen sie aber niemals ihre Herkunft und die des Prog Rock, der sich bisweilen auch gesanglich an IQ und Peter Nicholls oder gar SYLVAN und Marco Glühmann anlehnt, sowie die des New Artrock und lassen natürlich ebenso ursprüngliche PINK FLOYD-Anklänge zu Wort kommen.

Die Kompositionen besitzen in ihren am Boden schwebenden Sphären eine gewisse Schwermut, die letztlich in aller Schönheit und Klarheit weit über den Wolken triumphieren. Während sich Sänger/Gitarrist Robin Peachey für Gesang und fideles Saitenschwingen verantwortlich zeichnet, sorgt sein Bruder Steve mit sinnlichen Keyboards für die rundumsorglos Atmosphäre und Schlagzeuger Paul Johnston für den Rhythmus am Puls der Zeit.

Neun Minuten ´Fall Of The Watcher´ fördern die Schönheit des Artrock und der meisterlichen PINK FLOYD samt David Gilmour würdigem Solo zutage. Während das zehnminütige ´Sacrificed In Vain´ reichlich Stimmung aus dem Register PORCUPINE TREE zieht, aber mit anderem Gesang aufwartet, ist das kürzere ´White Room´ die wundervoll hypnotisch leichte Verbindung aus Brit Pop und IQ. Das edle, siebeneinhalbminütige ´April Sky´ streichelt hingegen nochmals sanft das Gemüt, ehe der Artrock, ebenso wie bei ´Lack Of Information´ all seine Kräfte bündelnd zur Schau stellt.
