Tigermoth Records release the new Magenta album “Masters of Illusion” on July 1st The album is a follow up to the 2017 “We Are Legend” and features the same band line up and consists of six songs including the 17 minute title track. The album is themed around the private lives of the famous horror actors of the 1950‘s and 60‘s.
Steve Reed: “My brother and I are both huge fans of the classic Hammer and Universal horror films. I remember as a kid watching the horror double bills on Saturday nights on BBC2 with great fondness. We were looking for a concept for the new album and came up with the idea of basing the song on some of our favourite actors; with the twist being that the stories would be about their private lives rather than the characters they portrayed in their films.
Robert Reed: “The album title reflects how most actors and musicians are masters of illusion. They get on stage and project this secure and confident exterior, but inside they can sometimes be fragile, insecure and often struggle with accepting criticism. That is something that being a musician, especially in the age of social media, you have to get used to.”
The album was recorded and mixed in Robert Reed’s studio in South Wales. Rob: “It was great to be able to take our time over the rhythm tracks and really work on the intricate details. It really has the sound of a full band performing, something we’ve been criticised for on some of Magenta’s early releases”.
The standard release will feature a CD along with a DVD featuring a 5.1 surround mix of the album, and video promos and interviews.
