Frank Zappa war Perfektionist. Das spüren besonders seine Musiker, die sich im Studio und auf der Bühne die Klinke in die Hand geben. Ab 1976 erscheinen Platten nur noch unter Zappas alleinigem Namen - also ohne den Zusatz "& The Mothers". Ab dieser Zeit kristallisiert sich dann auch allmählich eine wachsende Crew an Musikern heraus, die ihn in den nachfolgenden Jahren begleiten wird. Dazu zählen Gitarristen wie Ike Willis, Warren Cuccurrullo, Johnny Guitar Watson, Adrian Belew, Steve Vai und Mike Keneally. An den Keyboards standen u. a. Eddie Jobson, Tommy Mars, Peter Wolf, Bobby Martin und Alan Zavod. Am Bass betätigten sich Scott Thunes, Arthur Barrow, Patrick O‘Hearn, und zu Zappas Bands gehörten Schlagzeuger wie Chester Thompson, Terri Bozzio und Vinnie Colaiuta, um nur einige zu nennen. Mit solch hoch dekoriertem Personal spielte der Meister auch die umjubelten Konzerte im Capitol Theatre / NewYork, die nun als 4CD-Set als Remaster erscheinen, und ursprünglich auf Radio WDHA-FM als Broadcast liefen.
