Luther und Cody Dickinson gründeten die North Mississippi Allstars 1996 als loses Kollektiv von gleichgesinnten Musikern der zweiten Generation, die ein lokales Repertoire und einen regionalen Stil teilten. Im Laufe der Jahre änderte sich die Besetzung, und jede NMA Platte bot eine andere Kombination von Mitwirkenden. Bei Set Sail arbeiten die Brüder zum ersten Mal mit Jesse Williams am Bass und Lamar Williams, Jr. zusammen. Set Sail, das dreizehnte Album der North Mississippi Allstars, folgt auf das 2019 erschienene „Up and Rolling", das 2021 für einen Grammy Award in der Kategorie Best Contemporary Blues Album" nominiert wurde. Set Sail setzt die Tradition der Band fort Roots-Musik zu kreieren, die eine bemerkenswerte Vielfalt aufweist.
