VOLVOPENTA aus Mühlheim an der Ruhr sind eine Entdeckung des Tonzonen-Label-Bosses Dirk Raupach, der das psychedelische Quartett, das ihren musikalischen Stil selber als Neo-Kraut bezeichnet und sich mit Händen und Füßen gegen das P(ostrock)-Wort wehrt (Unglaublich, denn auf „Yoshiwara“ rockt es häufig sehr „postig“ vor sich hin!), bei einem Konzert der Psyche-Rock-Amis PONTIAK als Vorband hörte und von dem Gehörten so beeindruckt war, dass er sofort Kontakt mit ihnen aufnahm. Das neue Album »Simulacrum« führt mit fast ohrwurm-tauglichen Stücken wie »One To Five« oder »Kolonie 56« einerseits musikalische Entwicklungen fort, die auf dem Debut »Yoshiwara« bereits in Stücken wie »Wolfskull« oder »Short Sleep« angedeutet wurden, wagt sich aber auch in abstraktere Gefilde vor, wie »Flint« oder »Barfly« deutlich zeigen. Die CD enthält zusätzliche Songs wie das eher experimentelle »Ghost« oder das ziemlich düstere »Central Human Agency«, die noch einmal ein anderes Licht auf diese vielschichtige Band werfen.
