Don’t Stop The Music: Complete Recordings Vol. 1 1970-1992 6CD Box Set

Die ersten drei Alben von Trapeze aus den Jahren 1970 - 1972, aufgenommen für das Label Threshold.

Dazu kommt ein bisher unveröffentlichtes Live-Set von 1973, aufgenommen in Dallas, Texas, sowie eine intime Borderline-Show von 1992.

Entstanden aus zwei Bands aus den Midlands, Finders Keepers mit Mel Galley (Gitarre / Gesang), Dave Holland (Schlagzeug) und Glenn Hughes (Bass / Gesang) sowie John Jones (Gesang / Trompete) und Terry Rowley (Keyboard / Gitarre / Flöte) von The Montanas, Trapeze wurden von den 60er-Jahre-Beat-Superstars The Moody Blues entdeckt und für ihr eigenes Threshold-Label entdeckt, für das sie drei Alben aufnahmen, von denen die ersten beiden von John Lodge von The Moody Blues produziert wurden.

Ihr selbstbetiteltes Debüt liegt näher am psychedelischen Rock und progressiven Pop der späten 60er Jahre, als am blues- und soulgeschwängerten Hardrock, für den Trapeze bekannt sind. Das zeigt sich auch auf ihrem zweiten Album "Medusa", auf dem sich die Band auf das Power-Trio Galley, Holland und Hughes verkleinerte und schließlich ihren endgültigen Sound fand.

Trapeze veröffentlichten ihr drittes Album "You Are The Music - We're Just The Band". Produziert von Neil Slaven, enthält das Album eine Reihe namhafter Gäste, darunter B. J. Cole an der Steel-Gitarre und Rod Argent am E-Piano.

Eine der wichtigsten Hochburgen von Trapeze in den USA war Texas, woher auch eine bisher unveröffentlichte Aufnahme ihres Auftritts in Dallas während der Promotion ihres dritten Albums stammt.

Glenn Hughes verließ Trapeze 1973, um sich Deep Purple anzuschließen. Mel Galley und Dave Holland hielten die Trapeze-Fahne für den Rest der 1970er Jahre hoch, die auf dem zweiten Band der Trapeze-Gesamtaufnahmen festgehalten werden. Trapeze haben sich regelmäßig in dieser klassischen Dreierbesetzung neu formiert, vor allem im Mai 1992 im Londoner Borderline, was hier auf CD 6 als "Welcome To The Real World" festgehalten ist.

Neben seiner beeindruckenden Solokarriere gründete Glenn Hughes schließlich Hughes / Thrall, schloss sich Black Sabbath an, arbeitete mit so unterschiedlichen Künstlern wie Gary Moore, Joe Lynn Turner und KLF zusammen, gründete sowohl Black Country Communion als auch California Breed und war Frontmann von The Dead Daisies.

Sown from the seeds of two Midlands bands, Finders Keepers, featuring Mel Galley (guitar/ vocals), Dave Holland (drums) and Glenn Hughes (bass/vocals), plus The Montanas’ John Jones (vocals/trumpet) and Terry Rowley (keyboards/guitar/flute), Trapeze were discovered by 60s beat supremos The Moody Blues, snapped up for their own Threshold label for whom they recorded three albums, the first two of which were produced by The Moody Blues’ John Lodge.

Their self-titled debut veers closer to the late 60s psychedelic rock and progressive pop of their Moody Blues mentors than the blues and soul infused hard rock that Trapeze are better known for, as evidenced on their second album, ‘Medusa’, which saw the band scaled down to the power trio of Galley, Holland and Hughes, where they finally found their definitive sound.

Trapeze released their third album ‘You Are The Music • We’re Just The Band’. Produced by Neil Slaven, the album includes a number of notable guests, including B. J. Cole on steel guitar, plus Rod Argent on electric piano.

One of Trapeze’s major strongholds in the States was Texas, from where a previously unreleased recording of their show in Dallas while promoting their third record hails.

Glenn Hughes would leave Trapeze to join Deep Purple in 1973, leaving Mel Galley and Dave Holland to fly the Trapeze flag for the remainder of the 1970s, which will be captured on the second Volume of Trapeze’s complete recordings. Trapeze periodically reformed this classic three-piece line-up, most notably in May 1992 at London’s Borderline, captured here on CD 6 as ‘Welcome To The Real World’.

As well as forging a compelling solo career, Glenn Hughes would eventually form Hughes / Thrall, join Black Sabbath, collaborate with artists as varied as Gary Moore, Joe Lynn Turner and the KLF, found both Black Country Communion and California Breed, as well as fronting The Dead Daisies.
