Jacob Holm-Lupo geht mit seinem ersten Solo-Werk einen ähnlichen Weg wie zuletzt schon Yann Tiersen und auch dessen Frau Émilie aka Quinquis. Denn wo die beiden Bretonen zuletzt versuchten, den Geist ihrer Heimat Enez Eusa einzufangen, nutzt Holm-Lupo “Entire Of Itself” dazu, seiner Insel Sandøya ein Denkmal zu setzen. Dabei ist das Album nicht einfach eine Hommage an das Eiland im Oslofjord, sondern wortwörtlich dessen Vertonung. So besteht ein Großteil der gut 51 Minuten aus Field Recordings, die Holm-Lupo auf dem Eiland eingefangen hat. Manche von ihnen wurden dabei im Original verwendet, andere nachbearbeit. Zudem sind praktisch alle Instrumente, die auf der Platte zu hören sind, aus Dingen gefertigt worden, die zuvor auf Sandøya gefunden worden sind: Geweih-Harfen, Stahlrohr-Flöten, Wellblech-Trommeln… Einzige Ausnahmen sind hier die Gitarren von Jacob Lupo-Holm, die sich allerdings selbst schon so lange in dessen Studio auf Sandøya befinden, dass sie quasi Teil der Insel geworden sind.

Einzelne Teile dieses Werkes herauszugreifen macht keinen wirklichen Sinn. Wie so oft bei Ambient-Musik. Was wohl auch der Künstler selbst verstanden hat. Weswegen auf der Scheibe auch nur zwei Stücke vorzufinden sind: “Entire Of Itself Part 1” und “Entire Of Itself Part 2”. Eine Unterteilung, die wohl nur wegen einer eventuellen zukünftigen Vinyl-Veröffentlichung existiert. Stattdessen sollte man dieses Kunstwerk aus Naturaufnahmen und dezenter wie sanfer Instrumentierung als Gesamtheit begreifen und auch aufnehmen. Denn das Hören von “Entire Of Itself” ist wie eine meditative Traumreise, die einen ans nördliche Ende Europas teleportiert. Wunderschön! (Flohfish/betreutesproggen.de - 11/15)

"Entire of Itself" is a sonic document from the island where musician/producer Jacob Holm-Lupo lives.

Best known for his progressive rock/art pop projects White Willow and The Opium Cartel, Jacob has now stepped into new territories, with an album that encompasses field recordings, ambient music and dark folk. Every sound on the album is sourced from Sandøya, a small island at the Southern edge of the Oslofjord in Norway. Jacob moved there with his family five years ago, leaving a comfortable, suburban life behind for the wilder, freer island life. "Entire of Itself" contains field recordings, both pure and processed, as well as sampled. It also contains the sounds of instruments that have been constructed from found objects on the island. Antler harps, steel pipe flutes, corrugated steel drums. And finally, because Jacob‘s studio is on the island, he allowed himself to use some of the guitars he has there. "Entire of Itself" is not a new age-y document of an island paradise. It is a sometimes turbulent, sometimes serene, sometimes soothing and sometimes disturbing record of real, everyday life on a real island. Shifting, yet constant, much like the weather that drifts in from the North Sea.
