Absolutes Highlight!
I Am The Manic Whale’s second album Gathering The Waters will be released on Monday 30th of October 2017 . Following on from the success of their 2016 release Everything Beautiful In Time, I Am The Manic Whale; Michael, David, John and Ben, have been working hard in the studio over the last year to write and record 7 more pieces of progressive rock music for your enjoyment. This album, like its predecessor, is mixed by the illustrious Rob Aubrey (Big Big Train, IQ) and features songs about a range of unusual subjects; science fiction, psychology, lifeboat men, strandbeests, not turning a blind-eye to world events and remaining hopeful.
Tracklisting and information
1. The Man With Many Faces
A whimsical look at a certain time-travelling doctor from an unusual perspective.
2. The Milgram Experiment
Inspired by the work of social psychologist Stanley Milgram at Yale in the 1960s.
3. The Lifeboatmen
A song inspired by the story of William Henry Blogg, "the greatest of the lifeboat men" but about all those who nobly risk their own lives to save others at sea.
This song is inspired by the work of Dutch artist/engineer Theo Jansen, whose giant, all mechanical creations crawl majestically across beaches powered only by the wind. Don‘t just look at photos, please watch some video of them. The way they move is captivating. Mesmerising.
5. I’ll Interlude You In A Minute
A short instrumental track for piano, classical guitar, cello and flute that serves as a break in proceedings. It draws together a number of the key musical themes from the rest of the album and links us into the long form piece.
6. Stand Up
This song is inspired by a number of events in recent times on the world stage and explores some of our possible reactions to them over eighteen and a half minutes.
7. One (Hopeful Song)
"This album is sounding pretty dark so far, Michael." said my band to me one sunny May morning. "I suppose I‘d better write something more hopeful to finish it then." I responded sagaciously. We have hope!
