Das neunte Soloalbum von Toto-Hauptmitglied Steve Lukather, Bridges, könnte nicht treffender betitelt werden. Luke sagt: „Ich sehe es als Brücke zwischen meiner Solomusik und der von Toto. Die Tatsache, dass Joseph Williams, David Paich und ich den größten Teil des Albums geschrieben haben, und die Tatsache, dass ich viele aus der alten Toto-Gang eingeladen habe, zu kommen und zu spielen, bringt all dies zusammen. Es beweist auch, dass die meisten meiner alten Freunde und ich immer noch gute Freunde sind, und ich wollte eine Platte „im Stil von“ machen, da Toto nie wieder ein Studioalbum aufnehmen wird. Das ist so nah wie wir kommen werden.“
Bridges präsentiert tiefe Wurzeln und Zweige von Totos Stammbaum. Ehemalige und gegenwärtige Mitglieder tragen sowohl auf der Schreib- als auch auf der Aufführungsseite bei. Joseph Williams hat bei sechs der Songs Credits geschrieben, David Paich bei vier. Williams spielt bei allen Aufnahmen Hintergrundgesang, Synthesizer, Percussion oder Keys, die auf dem Track anstehen, während Paich auf fünf Keyboards spielt. Schlagzeuger Simon Phillips trat bei „Far From Over“, „Not My Kind Of People“, „When I See You Again“ und „Burning Bridges“ auf. Während Shannon Forrest zurückkehrte, um bei „Someone“, „All Forevers Must End“, „Take My Love“ und „I’ll Never Know“ zu spielen. The ninth solo album of ToTo main member Steve Lukather, Bridges, could not be more accurately titled. Luke shares, “I see it as a bridge between my solo music and ToTo Music. The fact that Joseph Williams, David Paich and I wrote most of the record, and the fact I invited many of the old ToTo gang to come and play, brings all this together. It also proves that most of my old pals and I are still great friends, and I wanted to do a record ‘in the style of,‘ as ToTo will never record another studio album. This is as close as we will get.”
