Achilles and the Difference Engine

Achilles & the Difference Engine ist der Nachfolger ihres selbstbetitelten 2018er Albums. Hauptakteure sind David Knowles und Colin McKay, beide Multi-Instrumentalisten, sowie der Leadsänger John Wilkinson. Wilkinson und Knowles waren zuvor Teil einer Genesis-Tribute-Band. Der Albumtitel weist Parallelen zu Big Big Train auf und es gibt auch einen Song namens "English Electric", was sicher kein Zufall ist.

Das Album umfasst 10 Tracks, die alle überzeugen. Besonders herausragend ist der Einstieg mit dem lebhaften "The Waffle House Index", gefolgt vom tropisch angehauchten "After Dark". „Being There“ beeindruckt mit einem gefühlvollen, melancholischen Klang und starken Orchestrierungen. Auch Songs wie "Cold Comfort" und "Contender" bieten energiegeladenen Rock. Das Highlight ist "My Little Vampire", das an Genesis‘ Trick of the Tail erinnert, gefolgt vom kraftvollen "No Idea" und dem epischen Abschlusstitel "This Great Adventure".

Das Album ist abenteuerlich, vielfältig und unterhaltsam – ein echtes Highlight, das mit kreativen Arrangements und außergewöhnlichen Vocals überzeugt.

bio:
In 1979 Colin and David began writing songs together and formed a band called ‘Achilles‘. The band played a hundred and one gigs playing their own progressive rock. This album contains some of the songs they composed all those years ago and is dedicated to everyone involved with the band. Colin sings lead vocal on some of these songs, honouring the band and its members and friends.
