Nach zwei Jahren in der Entstehung erscheint das neue Album der Kult Progressive-Rock Band Solstice als CD auf Giant Electric Pea. Solstice ist keine neue Band, ganz im Gegenteil. Sie können auf mehr als 40 Jahre Bandgeschichte zurückblicken, welche jedoch nicht ganz linear und erst recht nicht in heutiger Besetzung verlief. Spätestens seit 2020 Jess Holland (Best Female Singer 2022, Prog-Magazine) der Band beitrat, bekamen sie nach vielen Jahren endlich einen neuen Klang und ein neues Gesicht, was sich als mehr als nur positive Entscheidung herauskristallisierte. Im Anschluss auf ihr 2020 erschienenes Album Sia finden sich auf "Light Up" auf sechs qualitativ hochwertigen Tracks in Überlänge neben Klassischen Prog-Rock auch Einflüsse aus Welten des Funk, Folk sowie diverse Gastperformer und reichlich Soli. Biographie der Mitwirkenden

Solstice are a neo-progressive, folk rock band formed in 1980 in Milton Keynes, England. They are led by guitarist Andy Glass, who is the sole founding member still in the band.

The band formed in 1980, and performed BBC sessions and received national music press coverage before splitting in 1985 (with one guest appearance in 1986). Their only album release in this period was 1984‘s Silent Dance.

Interest generated by a CD reissue of Silent Dance led to a reunion in the nineties with two studio releases, New Life and Circles, and a live album, The Cropredy Set.

Guitarist Andy Glass once more put the band on hold in order to focus on band 3sticks. A DVD release of the Cropredy performance preceded another reunion in 2007, with the entire back catalogue being remastered and issued in expanded "Definitive Edition" form. The band then toured the UK and, for the first time, mainland Europe. In Spring 2022, Solstice underook an extensive tour of the UK and mainland Europe in support of the Sia album.



Two years in the making as the band cement themselves together into a cohesive whole, in particular allowing vocalist Jess Holland to thrive, this new album is pure joy which, in the words of Prog Magazine editor Jerry Ewing “evokes the spirit of the band I first saw in the ’80s, but with very much a here and now production sound and brings with it the wisdom of those ensuing years”. Jerry is bang on the money…

As if that wasn’t enough, the illustrious Greg Spawton of Big Big Train also gives the album a ringing endorsement, judging it to potentially be the band’s “best album yet”. Who is going to argue with that?

Six tracks, all a juicy length with one trademark epic, with funk, folk, prog, guest performers, solos galore, and a physical release package that fans will truly love. The artwork complements Sia, also created by Shaun Blake, and includes a heart-rending poem entitled Where the Heart Is from long-standing Solstice collaborator Oz Hardwick. That poem alone warrants purchase of the physical release.
