Mit Andy Tillison (The Tangent), James Christopher Knoerl (Aviations, Gargoyl) und Sylvain Auclair (Heaven‘s Cry, Karcius) wurde ‘It All Began With Loneliness‘ zwischen August 2020 und März 2022 auf der ganzen Welt aufgenommen.

Mit der gesamten Musik, die von Bassist Eduard Levitsky komponiert und produziert wurde, und Texten von Sylvain Auclair ist dieses Album ein absolutes Monster und eine der herausragendsten und innovativsten Veröffentlichungen des Jahres 2023 bisher. Aber sei gewarnt, es wird sehr, sehr laut und meiner Meinung nach ist es dadurch nur noch besser. Wie eine Naturgewalt, eine neolithische musikalische Tour de Force, ist ‘It All Began With Loneliness‘ eine absolute Powerhouse der progressiv-metallischen Erfindung.

Die unwiderstehliche Kraft feiner Prog-Metal-Melodien trifft auf das unverrückbare Objekt, das donnernde Gitarren, monumentales Schlagzeugspiel und präsente Gesangsstimmen sind, und überraschenderweise ist es eine im Himmel geschlossene Ehe. Und um es auf eine andere, fast unvorstellbare Ebene zu bringen, bekommen wir Altsaxophon, Flöten, Klarinette und sogar Gospelgesang!! Es sollte eigentlich in keiner Weise, Form oder Gestalt funktionieren, aber irgendwie tut es das und es funktioniert erstaunlich gut!

Eine der Dinge, die ich an Musik liebe, ist, wenn sie einen überrascht, und diese Debütveröffentlichung von "The Anchoret" hat mich beeindruckt. ‘It All Began With Loneliness‘ ist ein erstaunlich gutes Album, ja sogar atemberaubend, und zählt bereits jetzt zu meinen Favoriten des Jahres. Wenn es um Prog-Metal-Alben geht, wird es nicht viel besser als das!

With all the music composed and produced by bassist Eduard Levitsky and lyrics by Sylvain Auclair, this album is an absolute beast and one of the most stand out and innovative releases of 2023 so far. Fair warning though, it does get very, very loud and, to my ears at least, is all the better for it. Like a force of nature, a neolithic musical tour-de-force, ‘It All Began With Loneliness‘ is an utter powerhouse of progressive-metal invention.

The irresistible force of fine prog-metal melody meets the immovable object that is thunderous guitars, monumental drumming and in your face vocals and, surprisingly, it is a marriage made in heaven. And just to take it to another, almost unimaginable level, we get alto-sax, flutes, clarinet and even gospel vocals!! Gosh, it shouldn’t work in any way, shape or form but it just does and it works remarkably well!

One of the things I love about music is when it surprises you and this debut release from “The Anchoret” has been a revelation. ‘It All Began With Loneliness’ is an astonishingly good album, in fact jaw-droppingly so, and is already up there as one of my favourites of the year. As prog-metal albums go, it doesn’t get much better than this!
