The Cycle Undone

So here‘s an album that I suspect will be seated on many 2024 Top 10 lists.

Ten years in the making is the second album from Philadelphia area prog band The Twenty Committee. The band is led by keyboardist Geoffrey Langley who has been a member of Renaissance for quite some time. In fact I was tipped to the band by previous Renaissance (and Camel) keyboardist Jason Hart who is a friend of Geoffrey. I‘m glad he did.
This is a futuristic conceptual work - you don‘t get more prog than that. Langley‘s keyboard work is on display and he‘s an obvious talent but that doesn‘t overshadow the skills of the rest of the band. Plenty of nice soulful guitarwork that adds an edge where needed in parts of the album. The 13 minute title track features a welcome guest appearance from none other than Annie Haslam! Its probably the heaviest song Queen Annie has ever sung on and it works perfectly. Here and there the album reminds me of Echolyn but with a more overt prog side, particularly when Langley shows some flashy keyboard work.
I suspect there repeated listens with reveal more intricacies. I‘m up to the challenge. BUY OR DIE!

Das zweite Album der Progressive-Rock-Band The Twenty Committee aus der Philadelphia-Region hat zehn Jahre gedauert. Die Band wird vom Keyboarder Geoffrey Langley geleitet, der schon seit geraumer Zeit Mitglied von Renaissance ist. Tatsächlich wurde ich auf die Band von Jason Hart aufmerksam gemacht, dem vorherigen Keyboarder von Renaissance (und Camel), der ein Freund von Geoffrey ist. Ich bin froh, dass er das getan hat. Dies ist ein futuristisches Konzeptwerk - progressiver geht es kaum. Langleys Keyboard-Arbeit ist gut sichtbar, und er ist offensichtlich ein Talent, aber das überstrahlt nicht die Fähigkeiten des Rests der Band. Es gibt viel schönes, gefühlvolles Gitarrenspiel, das dort, wo es gebraucht wird, dem Album eine Kante verleiht. Der 13-minütige Titeltrack enthält einen erfreulichen Gastauftritt von niemand anderem als Annie Haslam! Es ist wahrscheinlich das härteste Lied, das Queen Annie je gesungen hat, und es funktioniert perfekt. Hier und da erinnert mich das Album an Echolyn, aber mit einer ausgeprägteren progressiven Seite, besonders wenn Langley mit einigen auffälligen Keyboard-Arbeiten aufwartet. Ich vermute, dass wiederholte Anhören mehr Feinheiten offenbaren werden. Ich bin bereit für die Herausforderung.
